Women's Rowing Completes Successful Weekend At Stetson

The Jacksonville women's rowing team wrapped up a successful first weekend back racing on Saturday in DeLand.

The weather was perfect, and the water was glass-like as the day got underway at 10 am. A light cross head wind appeared around 11 am and winds increased to as much as 14 mph throughout the remainder of the day.

Jacksonville's 1v8, 2V8, 1v4, 2v4 and 3v8 set the tone with convincing wins over the likes of Wesleyan, Embry-Riddle and Rollins in some way shape or form. The Dolphins also picked up a second-place finish in the 3v4.

JU's First Varsity Eight had the largest margin of victory of the day as it finished 15 seconds ahead of second placed Wesleyan, and more than 30 seconds ahead of fourth-placed Rollins. The Varsity Four race saw JU finish ahead of Nova by 13 seconds, and the second Varsity Eight won by nearly seven seconds. To round out the first-place finishes, Jacksonville's Second Varsity Four beat Connecticut in a dual by 37 seconds.

"I would call spring break 2024 a resounding success," said head coach Mike Lane. "We had a great week of training capped off with our second day of competition where we were nearly perfect. I was very proud of the effort our women put in this week, especially today as we started conference racing. What a great way to start the spring. I cannot wait to take the drive to Sarasota in two weeks to take on our next challenge."

Jacksonville returns to the water at the Sunshine State Invite, in Sarasota, Florida. The race starts March 29 and finishes on March 30.
